I was enthralled in a state of new love when I wrote “Take Me to the Star”. Feeling awed by how Simone's presence was transforming me into a better man, I sat at the piano to see if anything wanted to be written.
Most often, my writing process is to choose one of the infinite number of melodies that circulate in and around me, then craft the chord structure, then dig in to write lyrics. But this was quite different.
As my hands touched the keys my fingers began to move… felt independent of me, moving around the keyboard in ways they hadn't ever moved. My voice began to sing the melody, and even more surprisingly, most of the lyrics came out with the melody.
It's an amazing experience to birth a song whole like that. And pretty rare for me. Such a gift!
And speaking of birthing, I thought it would be fun to create a music video for the song. I'm sooooo long past the point where I'd be willing to appear in a music video, so I headed over to my friendly AI and said, “Gimme a video, AI dude” and out this popped.
