Hey hey — a new single! Wait… or is it an old single??? Whatever.
Back in college, Father and Son by Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam) was the top request at just about every acoustic gig I played. Coffeehouse, wine-and-cheese cellar, bar — didn’t matter. For some reason, that song always hit a chord with people.
It’s such a great tune to sing — I get to drop into the lower, grounded father’s part and then jump an octave for the son’s part. I always looked forward to that moment when I could come in as the son — it just feels dramatic!
So I decided to revisit it — just me, a guitar, and a few harmony layers for good measure. Nothing fancy, just the heart of the song. And slower than the original, which somehow feels more “right” to me.
It felt like stepping back into those old coffeehouse nights — same song, new chapter.Â
