Many of us have a difficult time expressing what we truly want to say — impacted by a variety of perceptions, beliefs, and survival strategies that block us. We block ourselves.
While of course we don’t want to cause anyone else pain, closer to the truth might be that we don’t want to experience discomfort. “I don’t want you to experience pain. I don’t want to be the source of your pain. I don’t want to take responsibility for my words, choices, or actions.” It’s about “me”. THIS… we can do something about.
When we find our way to freedom, we are liberated to gently and authentically share what’s alive in us and it’s so very connecting. Even if there’s pain, people love real people.
In the pre-chorus sections of “Free That Part of Me” are relevant phrases:
Gonna' have to stop pretending
Find a way to drop defending
I bet I can fly
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Waking up out of a trance
Living an enlightened dance
Love is alive
Let’s free ourselves to be real with each other. If we feel pain upon hearing what someone has said, that is our next opportunity to heal an old wound. There’s a gift in that if we’re willing and open to receiving it.
Um, just to be clear, that’s not an invitation to invite a bunch of hateful people into our lives to trigger a lot of “healing opportunities.” There’s already plenty of material around us to work with.
So listen to this song once in a while to remind yourself to fully and authentically share your beautiful self.
