It was a cold, dark night early in my first year in college and my love interest had just stopped us before we um…. Well, anyway, she told me that she had a boyfriend at home and couldn't cheat on him. Wouldn't.
I was twisted in emotions: the pain of not getting to be a pair and losing her; being reminded of previous relationships with this theme; and worse, the fact that she wouldn't violate her integrity (fully, at least) made the loss seem even greater. She was the good woman I thought her to be.
I lived on the 17th floor of a 21-story tower. Grabbed my guitar, sat with my legs out the window, and wrote my first song from the depths of that pain. This IS the way songwriters most often get their start. The song only took a few hours, but “Been So Blind” was born. (It actually holds up after all these years.)
Ha! Grateful for all of those women who brought heartbreak my way. LOTS of songs! 😊 And speaking of songs…
