MAKING MUSIC ACROSS AN OCEAN

I really enjoy doing these duet videos. Honestly, my part is the easy one. I sit down, hit record, sing the song, and that’s pretty much it.

But those who join me? They’re the ones doing the real work.
Here’s how it goes.

I record the basic guitar and vocal and send that file off. For this one, it went all the way to Denmark to my dear friend Hanna Snorradóttir.

She popped in her earbuds, listened to my track, and sang her part while pretending we were in the same room.

I have no idea how many takes people do to get it right — they never tell me — but what they send back is always amazing.

Once they send their part over, I might add a little harmony or a guitar line, and then everything goes to my long-time mixing engineer, Jeff Carruthers at Digital Zoo Music.

Jeff is an incredible songwriter, musician, producer with more smooth-jazz hits than I can count.

He pulls all the pieces together, sends the mix back to me, and then I sync it with the video and export it.

It’s a lot of fun to make these, and I love how this one turned out.

Here’s the “Love Me Do” performance video with wonderful Hanna.
